I feel like part which Caesar sees Will on the video is him wondering “what if I had left with him the day I closed my cage door on him, how differently things could or would have turned out”. The movie has such a fun and fresh look, and it was, as we know, the trial run for the new era of making photcopies onto cels of the actual drawings rather than the old method of painting/inking the clear plastic cel sheets (which had been one side painted with colors and the other side done in black outlines later). Most of the human action in 101 Dalmations was filmed with real actors before any drawing had begun. Mary Wickes played Cruella (Wickes was a great character actress of the 40s through the 80s, with loads of film and TV credits, and played one of the gargoyles in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame). So, a good chunk of this movie is rotoscopic animation, including the action scenes of De Vil's car ... a vehicle which was at first a cardboard model that the artists used for reference so that the whole final look would seem authentic. Granted, tracing is not unlike cheating, but the results look really cool. I enjoy flamboyant and hot-headed Cruella, her madness and style--- and that wonderful combo of chic and shabby in her looks. And she's so amazingly thin! Under that coat it's like pipe cleaners or something. The voice actress, Betty Lou Gerson, is also the opening narrator whom we hear in the beginning of the 1950 Disney feature Cinderella (the "once upon a time" scenario where we meet our young protagonist and her new family). The backgrounds are super, and so different from what we had seen from the studio up until the 1960s. There's a fun simplicity there (as well as in The Sword in the Stone), and also a specific color palette that's pleasing and modern. I strongly suspect that the sound used for Pongo's bark is the same one that was heard on the 1950s television show Lassie, about a Collie dog's adventures. They seem identical to the ear. I used to find that show on reruns on cable back in the day (1980s). Lastly: Have you gents ever reacted to the 1962 Chuck Jones musical film Gay Purr-ee, with the voices of Judy Garland, Robert Goulet, Paul Frees and Red Buttons? It's worth a looky-loo. Some of it is really striking visually. Many people compare it to Disney's The Aristocats, but you have to look at each movie as its own thing entirely; they're quite different from each other, even though the settings are similar and the characters are cats.

There's a theory about the aliens being so advanced that they eradicated bacteria and viruses amongst themselves and then over time they forgot about disease as they advanced. They then went to Earth and got done over by the bacteria. I also think that it's an important reminder to Humans that bacteria are important and we shouldn't be trying to eradicate all bacteria. Maybe one day bacteria will save us.

A few interesting call-backs in the Bay-verse Transformers: You must have noticed the lines of Optimus fighting Megatron were ported straight into the first Transformers movie for their battle there. "At the end of this day, one shall stand, one shall fall." The death of Optimus in Revenge of the Fallen. As was mentioned elsewhere, after fandom outrage, he was gradually brought back in the TV series, though ultimately changing his form for new toys. The original contracts to produce the toys of Japanese origins expired, and they wanted to move away from the expensive metal pieces to all-plastic, as well as new designs made in America and solely owned by Hasbro. Hence the movie's death of most of the original characters. For example, there were three color variants of F-15 fighters that became separate Decepticons - Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp. All three were destroyed in this movie, as well as three others using the F-15 body with different wings - Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet. (Interestingly, Starscream was so popular as a villain and rival of Megatron that they brought him back, too.) Leonard Nimoy, voicing Galvatron here, was then brought back by Michael Bay to voice Sentinel Prime in "Dark Side of the Moon." He then reintroduced his iconic line from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." In Age of Extinction, the human-built transforming truck that was supposed to be based on Optimus but rebelled because they used Megatron's brain to program it thinking he was dead - and he took it over - was called Galvatron. Also brought in the Dinobots at the end, though in the TV show they were built on Earth after the Autobots saw the huge dinosaur fossils, and thought having some would help against the Decepticons. Because they weren't born on Cybertron, they had only rudimentary intelligence, which evolved over time to be a little less brutish.

Of all the absolutely perfect things about this film, one of my favourites is that the T-rex feels like a real animal exploring new surroundings and objects. She's having the time of her life! Playing with the tyres, shoving the jeep off the cliff - that headbash to the moving jeep especially is just so realistic to me, like she doesn't really know how to hunt because she never learned, and even if she had she wouldn't know how to hunt a jeep, and she also literally just ate (rip goat and genarro) so she's more invested in just playing with it and working out what it is.
